The worlds tallest building at 818 meter is completed and will open in december. It is three times taller size of the France’s Eiffel Tower. The building with its three design elements, engineered to provide stability in strong winds, as well as provide an intricate and fantastic design for a tower will become part of the new Dubai waterfront. Combine this with entire new blocks and islands built for the joy of tourism alone, and Dubai will be one this century’s hotspots to travel too. This time a tower that is inspired more directly by Islamic culture, the Nakheel Tower or Al Burj. The design of these enormous tower is incredible and the entire city planning and landscape architecture will make the entire area a feast for any architectural or construction interested persona. The maybe best example of what modern engineering and a wealth of money can accomplish when no old buildings and such are standing in the way. Projects like this would be completely imaginary.
Hopefully will not only the Dubai region but also the entire middle-east prosper from these new developments, but not all can build towers that reach for the sky. As oil becomes less and less the financial security it has provided for so long to this region, new sources of economic wealth must be invested in. Hopefully realistic projects will also be the main target of petrodollars and not just these amazing feats of engineering that all seek to once again tower soar towards the heavens like the tower of Babel.
I would also like to commend on brilliantly constructed websites. The Burj Dubai site is minimalistic and suffer from a few flaws such as overlapping text but is adequate to provide you with a feeling that this is a special building, not just any other tower. Most effective and marvelous to the eye is however the Nakheel tower site. The imagery encompases the entire screen rather than a small part and scrollling up and down to watch the pictures that are always at full size. The music also more seemed fit for the region, than the music from Burj Dubai’s site that made me feel like I playing a game and had docked on a space station in the Eve Online universe.
